David Cochran,
EdD, has served in many educational positions and ventures.
He has been an elementary and middle school teacher, middle
school supervisor, high school vice principal, district
Director of Math, Science, and Technology, adult school
director, and college professor. He has also owned two
other publishing businesses – Fruition Publications and
HyperMedia Associates. As a writer, he has had published 6
books and over 30 articles.
Valeria B. Girandola,
MSEd, is a former elementary school teacher and Reading
Specialist, K-12. She has taught in Upper Freehold (NJ)
Regional School District and Montgomery Township (NJ) School
District, at Mercer County Community College, NJ, and in the
graduate and undergraduate Developmental Reading Programs at
the College of New Jersey. Her writing has been published
in both professional and children’s publications. Her
degrees include a BS, Elementary Education, Fordham
University, an MS, Developmental Reading, The College of
New Jersey, and post-graduate studies at the University of
Utah.
Advisors
Barbara Antoniewicz
is the media specialist for third and fourth graders at
Village Elementary School in Montgomery Township, NJ.
Barbara taught third grade and preschool before moving into
the media center. An avid reader and storyteller, she has
done some professional storytelling at local public
libraries throughout New Jersey. She holds a Master’s
Degree from Kean University as an Educational Media
Specialist.
Yolanda Boyd
teaches science at Burlington Township (NJ) Middle School at
Springside, where she organized and facilitates Family Astro,
a science program for families. She has also served on her
school district's Science Vertical Articulation Team. She
is pursuing National Board Certification in Early
Adolescence Science.
Steven L. Boynton
has over 30 years of experience in retail bookselling with
small and medium independently owned stores. This experience
includes both the management of operations and the buying of
product to successfully meet the needs of all readers.
Andrea Cochran
is a Reading Specialist at Strathmore Elementary School
(Grades 3-5) in Montgomery County, MD. She received her
undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Western
Maryland College and a Masters of Science degree in Reading
from Johns Hopkins University.
Rebecca L. Dorn
has been teaching for 27 years. She received an AS in Child
Study from Bennett College, her undergraduate degree in
Elementary Education from the University of Virginia, and a
Masters in Reading from Boston University. She is currently
a fifth grade literacy teacher and Social Studies teacher at
Indian Hill School In Holmdel, NJ. She has also had
teaching experience in first and fourth grade as well as
serving on many curriculum committees within her district.
Her professional affiliations include Phi Delta Kappa, IRA,
and NCTE. She is an avid reader and lover of nature.
Arthur Firestone
is a former teacher, supervisor, and principal with a
lifelong interest in science and a deep commitment to
environmental issues. He is currently a consultant who
works with teachers helping them to create more inviting,
engaging, stimulating, and successful classroom lessons.
Tim Fleck
has 16 years of teaching experience and is currently
teaching 6th grade at Harman School in the Oakwood City
School District in Dayton, Ohio. Tim has an extensive
background in educational technology, particularly in the
area of multimedia. He has given numerous national and
international presentations, written several books, and
worked on many technology projects. He is now the
co-facilitator of Harman School's student technology team.
Nathaniel Hartshorne
served as managing editor and in other capacities for 24
years at Educational Testing Service. In 1985, he became
Director of Publications at Princeton Theological
Seminary. He has published more than 25 articles and short
stories.
Lyle Girandola
is Vice President/Publishing Finance for the
Education Segment of The McGraw-Hill Companies. He holds a
BS in Business Management from Fairfield University, Conn.,
and an MBA from Rider University, NJ. He has lectured at
Pace University, NYC in their undergraduate and graduate
executive publishing program.
Neal Girandola
is East Coast writer and producer of How To videos for
VideoJug America, Inc. His work can be found at

Jennifer Keith has taught for seven years
and served as team leader in Lowell Public Schools, Lowell,
Massachusetts. She currently is teaching and serving as a
team leader for Educate Online, an online tutoring company.
Sue LeBeau, EdD,
has over 35 years of experience in the elementary and middle
school grades, as well as experience teaching online at the
university level. She has also served as a technology
advisor in several elementary schools, where she worked with
students and teachers to integrate technology into the
curriculum.
Susan MacDougall
has 34 years experience as a teacher in Brick, NJ, of which
10 years were served as an Elementary Science Specialist.
She has written science and technology curricula and has
presented science workshops for the National Science
Teachers Association, New Jersey Science Teachers
Association, and the Council of Elementary Science - New
Jersey. She was a team leader for the NSTA Webwatchers
Summer Institute developing online science units and a
finalist for the President's Award for Excellence in Science
and Math Teaching.
Gerard Mooney
is a retired educator who taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th, grade
in the Lawrence Township (NJ) School District.
During his teaching career he had the honor of
winning a Golden Apple Teacher Award from the New Jersey
Cable Television Network for excellence in teaching. He was
also awarded the Teacher Excellence Award for the Teacher of
the Year. He served as a delegate to the National Education
Association for 15 years, representing the Educators of New
Jersey on the National Policy making body. Prior to
retirement, Gerard served on the District’s Science
Committee during the inception of the Hands on Approach to
Science Education.
Janet Narayan
has taught science in grades 7-12 in Montgomery Township
(NJ) School District, including courses in life science,
physical science, biology (all levels), chemistry and
environmental science. She organized and advised the award
winning environmental club called Montgomery Students for
Environmental Action and served as the high school science
department chairperson.
Erin Peacock
is Director of Science Education (K-12) for the Montgomery
Township School District in Skillman, NJ. She has also
supervised mathematics and science (K-8) in Montgomery
Township and is a former middle school and high school
science teacher. Erin has served for many years as the
Science Content Instructional Specialist for the Princeton
University Program in Teacher Preparation. Erin has a B.A.
in Biology from Rutgers University, an M.A. in Curriculum
and Instruction from Rider University, and has done
post-graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania
Graduate School of Education. She is currently a doctoral
student at Teacher’s College, Columbia University.
Patricia Richwine,
PhD, is a retired university professor whose
special interest is integrating children's literature with
other content areas, especially science and mathematics.
She has presented at numerous conferences for the National
Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and the International
Reading Association (IRA).
Laura Sarubbi
is currently the Interim Director of Blawenburg (NJ) Village
Preschool. After receiving her undergraduate degree in
Information Systems and working in the technology department
of various financial firms, she obtained her graduate degree
in Child Development. In addition to being a teacher and
parent educator, she has been an adjunct professor in the
undergraduate teacher education programs at Montclair State
University and Rider University and coordinated professional
development opportunities for the members of the NJ
Association of Independent Schools.
